Ah shit I just realized that theres no 'stepsister' option for the second design. CRAP.

Ahhh sorry! I guess you can take it as a very youthful stepmother >< And there isn't enough time for me to do up another one. D:

Anyway, whats done is done, I'll just move on to explaining this. (:

So my other 'half', =Zai-chan didn't have a lot to work with, so I used her CS entry, and then i worked from the color scheme (:

This is pretty lengthy:

Cinderella: For me, the way I see Cinderella is that she turns from rags to riches, as the saying goes. And I wanted to incorporate this into her dress. I started off with the more bland dirty browns for the ribbons, and they overlap randomly, leaving some areas uncovered. Following that, slowly down the dress, the embellishments and details give a hint of 'riches'. The richer brown in the overlay piece as well as the translucent fabric give a touch of elegance, and I end off the piece with a large skirt with a long slit up the middle in a classic dark-blue-grey, with stripes drawing up the shape of a diamond. Some say that heels give a woman confidence, and from my perspective, I've always felt that Cinderella lacked her own confidence, so I drew her (a really high) pair of heels to compensate.

And the stepsister/stepmother thing:
Unlike Cinderella, it can be argued that they (sister/mother) turned from 'riches' to 'rags', but that isn't the case, hence I want to use the difference in color scheme, from rich at the top to bland at the bottom to depict most of their actions in the story. They start off as well-groomed, which explains the flowers and the classic blue as well as the bodice, and that causes them to be proud of themselves, which can be interpreted as being a 'air head', and having a big ego, which translates into the big 'nut'-like part near the hips, which begin to take on a brownish-color. And as they formulate to get the Prince at the ball, and eventually fail, the 'nut' spreads out to reveal a pale, limp and lifeless skirt, effectively describing their ending in the story.

yup D: Thats about it. I've never really designed for theatre/etc before, so I thought I'd just do it in my own style, doing a haute couture yet a hint of pret-a-porter, and something more elaborate ><

Cheers,
L.
